Travel Lust? Try the Romantic Road in South Germany - Some impressions from my trip

After traveling along the Romantic Road in Bavaria and Baden-Wuerttemberg where I took some pictures I wanted to share some impressions with you. The road is the most visited and travelled road in Germany. Here you can see the route

There are a lot cities which really remind you on the Middle Age. Cities with old half-timber houses and huge city walls and massive gates. The Romantic Road was once a trade route between wealthy cities and towns.

Because I can't post every picture here I wan't to share some from my favourite cities with you.

First of all some general information:

The Romantic Road connects Würzburg with Füssen which is a small city near Austria. You may know it from Neuschwanstein Castle.

The tour started for me in Würzburg on a sunny day. After climbing up the small hill where the fortress is you have an incredible view over the city. Visit the historic city and drink a glas of wine :) It's very good wine in that region because you have a special climate there with all the rivers which is ideal for winegrowing.

A little inside tip is the beach bar on the river called Main.

There are also museums where you can visit old dungeons for prisoners and learn about the most common methods of torture.

The city grew a lot until there was a besiegment while the Thirty Years' War. There is a nice story that the mayor of Rothenburg had to drink a huge glas with 3,25 liters of wine to prevent the city from being destroyed from Tilly and his army. The mayor did it and the city was reprieved.

In Rothenburg is a delicacy which is called "Schneeball" (=snow ball). These are little pastries in a round form overglazed in different ways.

After Rothenburg you should take a side trip to Schwäbisch Hall a town which looks like Middle Age, too.

Then Dinkelsbühl

Dinkelsbühel is a small and very cute city. After entering one of the gates you really feel like being in the Middle Age. Every house has different colours and the graphic characters look antic so you really think you travelled in time.

A huge wall surrounds the town and helped to stop offenders.
